Bradford has been chosen ahead of Leeds and Huddersfield to host the West Yorkshire round of England Athletics’ Beyond 2012 roadshow.

The aim of the roadshow is to meet runners, club officials and other interested parties to hear views about the future direction of athletics.

England Athletics’ Emma Brady says she wants to hear local views, in order “to build a long-term vision for the sport – long after the torch of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games has gone out”.

Bradford has been chosen because its own athletics network, incorporating eight of the clubs in the district, is considered one of the most dynamic and successful in the country.

This was testified by a lengthy two-page article on Bradford in the recent spring issue of Setting the Pace, England Athletics’ nationwide magazine.

A Bradford club representative will be addressing the meeting, while regional chair, Mike Moss (St Bede’s), will be leading the question-and-answer session.

The meeting takes place from 6.30pm to 9pm in the Saville Room of Bradford City Hall on Tuesday, April 27.

* While many local runners are preparing for this weekend’s London Marathon, Eccleshill’s Dawn Hogan has opted instead for her first-ever half-marathon in Sheffield this Sunday.

“I’m raising money towards the BCFC Burns Unit appeal as 2010 is the 25th anniversary of the Bradford City fire disaster,” said Hogan.

She can be sponsored via www.justgiving.com/dawn-hogan.

* Mick Brearley (St Bede’s) led a group to Lochaber to run the marathon on Sunday from Fort William out and back alongside Loch Eil.

He dipped under three hours.

“My hamstring injury in the autumn meant my prep time was rushed,” said Brearley.

“I had no real base, and started from scratch in early December. My training never really got going properly till the end of March.”

Nevertheless, he did ten-mile splits almost to plan in 67min 30sec and 68min and declared himself “well happy”, given the circumstances.

Next year’s target is a personal best in New York, apparently.

Training companion Keith Pailing, as over-60, set a lifetime best at Lochaber of 3hr 11mins.
