KEIGHLEY triathlete Jimmy Lund is off to Austria next, after a couple of minor bumps in the road have hindered his progress in the last month.

He secured a spot at August’s World Beach Games in Bali by coming third at the World Triathlon Aquathlon Championships in Ibiza last month.

But he admitted to the Keighley News that his other main goal at the start of the season was to qualify for World Cup events in triathlon.

He can do that by achieving a podium in the British Super Series or by coming in the top five at a European Cup event.

The talented prospect, born in 1999, has come close twice in the last few weeks, but just missed out.

The Super Series opener was in Llanelli in mid-May, but Lund came a slightly disappointing ninth, meaning he will be returning to Super Series action next month in Sunderland, on Saturday, July 29.

As for the European Cup, the Keighley native was competing in Poland last Saturday, and came close to that coveted top-five spot.

But he could only finish eighth, 23 seconds off the top five, meaning he will attempt to go three better at a European Cup event in Austria next Saturday.
