Pudsey Pacers hosted the first West Yorkshire Winter Cross-Country fixture of the new year on a challenging course around Black Carr Woods, and made local knowledge tell when the men took first place on the day to reduce the deficit on leaders Dewsbury.
Rogan Ashton (ninth), James Clark (12th) and Nigel Armitage (13th) skipped through the mud to set up the victory, with Charlie Johnson and Ed Melbourne, both on debut, providing strong support.
Ann Francis (12th) was again impressive in the women's race, backed up by second and third counters Diane Wood and Jenny Cooper.
Quentin Lewis (Baildon) was first local runner home in fourth, followed by Will Kerr (St Bede's) in eighth. Emma Hinkles (Baildon) in 11th was the first of the local women in a race dominated by Stainland and Dewsbury.
With three of the five events completed, the top four positions overall are really tight Dewsbury (4,659 points) are just ahead of Pudsey (4,548), Leeds-Bradford Triathlon (4,516) and Stainland (4,503).
Baildon, Idle and St Bede's follow a good way behind.
