LYDIA Farley ran well in the Yorkshire County Championships under-20 meeting at Ripon to finish in sixth place.

In a field of 13 runners, the Bradford & Airedale athlete completed a 5.85 kilometre cross-country course in a time of 28:29, just under five minutes behind race winner Bronwen Owen, who runs for Scarborough as well as Leeds University.

Farley is currently studying at Derby University while continuing her athletic development in both cross-country and track and field disciplines.

The 18-year-old was picking up where she left off after a strong showing in 2015, where she finished in the top four in her last five track races, including personal best performances at Cleckheaton and Grimsby in the 3,000m and 1,500m respectively.

This time last year, Farley won the senior girls 3,800 metre race in the Bradford Schools Cross-Country Championship to earn a place on the Bradford Schools team.

A month later she performed well alongside Ilkley’s Lucy Williamson in the West Yorkshire Schools Cross-Country Championship to qualify for the English Schools Championships.

Williamson, who has also run for Bradford & Airedale in the past, finished just ahead of Farley at Ripon with a time of 28:11.

Elsewhere in the race, Lucy’s twin sister Joanne finished 11th in 31:05 for Ilkley, while Halifax Harriers’ Hannah Roby ran a time of 32:50.
