FOLLOWING the success of the Northern Winter League race walking series and a summer venture of "Village Walks" around North Yorkshire, plans are being made for an Annual Festival of Race Walking, promoted jointly with the Bradford-based Yorkshire Race Walking Club and the Northern Area Race Walking Association.
The events will take place at Kirby Fleetham North Yorkshire on Sunday, May 24 2015.
The events will include an Open Six-hour race for a proposed "Fattorini" Trophy, a 50-kilometre event for the "Frank Holt" Memorial Cup and the Northern Area 35km Championship.
The International Liaison Officer will be Peter Marlow of the Race Walking Association.
The "Village Walks" will also offer races for novices and walkers over a distance of 5km and 10km. The aim of the events are to spark a revival of the Bradford tradition for race walking in Yorkshire.
