After defeating defending champions the Heavy Woollen Junior League in the semi-finals, the Bradford Junior League were beaten by the Huddersfield Junior League in the final of the Lord’s Taverners' Under-11 final at Spofforth on Sunday.

In better weather than forecast at a delightful ground, the Huddersfield Junior League were better in all three aspects of play and scored 105-9 off their 30 overs, Joe Green (Thackley) taking 3-5.

After losing Archie Scott (Pudsey St Lawrence) to the first ball of their innings, Bradford were always up against it, particularly after man of the match Scott Senior (Upperthong) destroyed the middle order in taking 4-14.

But there was always hope for Bradford as long as Jonathan Robinson (Idle) and Will Grace (Bradford & Bingley) were together, Robinson hitting several leg-side boundaries while Grace played a valuable minor role.

However, once Robinson was bowled for 20, the end was not far away, Bradford being dismissed for 68 as Huddersfield deservedly triumphed for the first time.

Yorkshire Cricket Board chief executive Ian Chappell presented the man of the match award and complimented both sides on reaching the final, adding: “Sixteen teams didn’t.”
