Idle under-11s are celebrating success after winning the Bradford Junior League Cup final following a thrilling match against Great Horton Church.

For Idle it was a particularly momentous occasion as it was the first time since 2005 they have won this trophy, having come runners-up in last year’s match.

Great Horton Church won the toss on their home pitch and decided to put Idle into bat.

The highlight of Idle’s innings was an excellent 54 by Josh Stephenson, which included ten fours.

He was supported by Aston Dalladay in a partnership of 37 and Hannah Moulds.

The innings ended with a cameo role by Owen Price, who hit two fours in the last over to help Idle reach a competitive total of 126.

The pick of the Great Horton Church bowlers was A Ahmed with figures of 3-18.

The sunshine was out when Great Horton Church went into bat and, despite losing three early wickets, which included an excellent run out by Oscar Mohammed and a caught and bowled by Aston Dalladay, Great Horton Church made inroads into the Idle total.

F Khan (43) and E Rawnsley (12) were the stars of the innings with a partnership of 46.

Some excellent fielding by all of the Idle players made sure it was going to be a tight finish.

The penultimate over was an excellent one for Great Horton Church, where M Abbas (17) hit two fours, and they scored ten off the over leaving three needed in the last over with two wickets remaining.

Dan Gallagher stepped up to bowl and the first two were dot balls and in the next two balls confusion, with two run-outs, and they ended up on 124 in an exciting and fitting ending to the final.

Josh Stephenson secured the man of the match award with his score of 54 and bowling figures of 2-25. The fielding point went to William Nicholson, who made a superb stop on the boundary saving 3 three runs.

The winning margin was only two runs and both sides deserve credit for a highly competitive game played in excellent spirit.
