Denholme’s Andrew Wear has finished his junior career with a third successive Upper Airedale Junior Cricket Association Cricketer of the Year award.

The under-17 all-rounder, who received his award from Yorkshire County Cricket Club’s James Wainman – who was provided by Association sponsors Pro Coach Academy – at the Rendezvous Hotel in Skipton, will now concentrate on his senior duties at Harden.

The host venue was sponsoring the evening for a second straight year, and a review of the 2012 Upper Airedale season was followed by awards to more than 40 recipients.

Team awards were given to Wear’s Denholme under-17s, who captured their first title at the top level; to Oakworth under-15s, who reclaimed the title they won for the first time two years ago; to Embsay, winners of the North Yorkshire under-13 Conference, and to Oxenhope, who won the West Yorkshire equivalent; to Cullingworth under-11s, who added the Championship to their third Barritt-Stephenson Cup win; to Skipton, who topped the North Conference, and finally to Oakworth under-nines who won the Summer League.

Much attention was focused on the identity of the five Cricketer-of-the-Year awards, now in their ninth year.

Wear apart, they went to Sam Solley (Cowling, under-15s), Elliot Stockton (Embsay, under-13s), Joe Hall (Cullingworth, u-11s) and Poppy Saffery (Aire Valley Angels and Cononley).

For Sam, his award more than made up for finishing second in both batting and bowling sections.

Elliot captured the under-13 award by the narrowest of margins – a point, from Wilsden’s Jacob Jagger – while Joe set new records for batting and bowling at under-11 level.

Poppy burst on to the scene at under-11 level and received the award in only her second season.

Batting awards – Ben Fothergill (Oakworth u17), Sam Murphy (Cullingworth u15), Joel Fothergill (Oakworth u13), Thomas Meakin (Steeton u-11) and Bradley Powell (Oakworth u-9).

Bowling awards – Andrew Wear (Denholme u-17), Isaac Murray (Denholme u-15), Jack Perry (Embsay u-13), Joseph Hall (Cullingworth u-11) and Ellis Marshall (Cullingworth u-9).

Fielding awards – Callum Gerrard (Denholme u-17), Ben Howell (Oakworth u-15), Oliver Gath (Crossflatts u-13) and Owen Bridge (Steeton u-11).

Wicket-keeping awards – Callum Gerrard (Denholme u-17), Lewis Hopkinson (Oxenhope u-15), Billy Whitford (Cullingworth u-13) and Toby Tidswell (Cullingworth u-11).

Special awards also went to key players from the Upper Airedale Junior Association’s representative squads, who performed well in their county-wide competitions.

Special award winners – Chris Wademan (Glusburn), Callum Lockett (Upper Wharfedale), Ben Whitfield (Wilsden), George Sutcliffe (Skipton), Oliver Huck (Oakworth), Lewis Hopkinson (Oxenhope), Jacob Jagger (Wilsden), Joel Fothergill (Oakworth), Matthew Fleetwood (Oxenhope), Alex Baker (Oxenhope), Ali Ahmed (Cullingworth), Will Hopper (Oxenhope), Danny Murphy (Cullingworth), James Mukherjee (Skipton), Thomas Meakin (Steeton), Tom Starkey (Skipton), Joe Hall (Cullingworth) and Todd Cartwright (Crossflatts).
