WITH the weather finally improving, what better way to spend the weekend than by basking in the sunshine at some of the events taking place in Bradford this weekend.

From Dragon Boat racing to walks and concerts, there are plenty of activities taking place across the district this weekend.

ACROSS THE WEEKEND

The Bronte Vintage Gathering will be taking place at Cullingworth Recreation Ground, with a variety of events taking place on both the Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are £6 for adults and £4 for concessions.

SATURDAY

A new exhibition named Beastly Machines will open at Bradford Industrial Museum, which will feature humorous mechanical sculptures of animals by artist Johnny White. It will be open from 10am to 4pm and will run until November. Admission is free.

The Lord Mayor's Dragon Boat Festival will come to Roberts Park in Saltaire, starting at 10am, with 45 teams taking part. Come along and enjoy the action, as well as much more family entertainment, all for free.

Ilkley bandstand will host a GMC Jazz concert from 2pm to 4pm, and will be the perfect setting for an afternoon picnic and to relax and unwind in the park.

Tracy Gray will be leading a walk around Darwin Gardens in Wells Road, Ilkley, focused on the colourful world of lichens. The walk is free and will last from 2pm to 4pm, with dogs welcome.

Nature lovers can take a walk along the river in Ilkley from 2pm to look out for kingfishers and other local wildlife. The walk will start in New Brook Street and will be led by Gillian Dale and Mary Weir.

Bradford Grammar School is holding its annual spring fair, with a variety of fairground attractions and a special preview of the summer's Rio Carnival plans. Entry is £1 to the fair in Keighley Road, which will run from 12pm to 4pm.

Local group The Chippendale Singers will be playing at St Mary's Parish Centre in Burley-in-Wharfedale in aid of the Yorkshire Cancer Centre. Tickets are £10 for the show which starts at 7.30pm, and for more information call 01943 461318.

SUNDAY

Bradford City host Chesterfield in the final game of the regular season. With a play-off berth already secured, the Bantams will be looking to get a home tie, and it promises to be a carnival atmosphere at Valley Parade. Kick off is at 12.30pm, and tickets are available from the club's website.

The Two Rivers Concert Band will be performing at Ilkley Bandstand from 2pm to 4pm, so why not come along and enjoy the music in the sunshine.

A Jewish Heritage Trial Guided Walk will be taking place at 11am, beginning at Cartwright Hall, and will take walkers on a guided tour around Bradford's historic Jewish buildings and sites of interest. Tickets for the walk are £5.

Jumbles and Pearls will return to Haworth for the second time, with a variety of vintage goods and jewellery available at the fair. The fair will take place at the Old School Room in Church Street from 12pm, and entrance is free.

Artist Johnny White will be giving a talk at the Bradford Industrial Museum about his new Beastly Machines exhibition. The talk will run from 12pm to 1pm, with free entry, before the official opening of the exhibit.

Keighley's Small World Music Project will be performing at Cliffe Castle Museum at 2pm, with free admission.
