BRADFORD'S Lord Mayor has dipped her oar in the water to launch a Dragon Boat Festival which will take place in Saltaire next Spring.

Councillor Joanne Dodds was at Doe Park water activities centre to encourage teams to join in the fun and sign up for the event which will benefit her own 'Spread a Smile' Appeal.

Up to 40 teams are expected to compete in the second such race which will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2016 on the River Aire at Roberts Park.

Bradford Hospitals Children’s Charity will also benefit from any funds raised.

Dragon Boat novice Councillor Dodds said: "After the huge success of the previous event I was keen to ensure that the Dragon Boat Festival took place during my term as Lord Mayor of Bradford.

"The sooner people sign up, the longer they will have to prepare and to raise sponsorship."

She was joined at Doe Park by crews from last year's event, who handed over monies raised through their watery efforts.
