A woman has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after she was in collision with a car in Bradford city centre.

The incident happened in Hall Ings, just before 5.15pm.

West Yorkshire Police and paramedics were at the scene treating the pedestrian, thought to be in her 30s, and set up a cordon.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance landed on Hall Ings, close to The Broadway car park and Telegraph & Argus building at about 5.45pm and left at around 6.20pm.

A spokesman for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance said it had been called at 5.13pm to reports of a pedestrian being hit by a car.

“We sent a doctor, a clinical supervisor, an ambulance, a hazardous response team – who have specialist equipment which can be quite useful in these situations – and the air ambulance,” she added.

The woman, thought to be in her 30s, was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary with multiple serious injuries.

A blue Toyota private hire car, with severe damage to the bonnet and windscreen, can be seen within the police cordon.

Police officers are marking out the scene as they investigate what happened.

The road has now reopened after being closed for around three hours.

A lane of the nearby Jacob's Well roundabout is also closed following an accident where one car drove into the back of another vehicle.

A witness said the closed roads had caused confusion for some drivers and others had been jumping red lights.
