The 32-year-old, from the Leeds area, was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary following the incident on Hall Ings at 5.15pm. She suffered head, chest and leg injuries.

The woman had been crossing Hall Ings when she was hit by a private hire vehicle, a blue Toyota Hiace, at the junction with Bridge Street.

WOMAN SERIOUSLY INJURED IN COLLISION IN BRADFORD CITY CENTRE TAKEN TO HOSPITAL BY AIR AMBULANCE

The driver of the car, a 45 year old man, has been spoken to by police, and enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

Members of the public who may have witnessed the incident have been asked to come forward.

The road was closed for three hours to allow the woman to be treated and for the police to investigate the crash.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

A Yorkshire Air Ambulance landed just outside the entrance to the Broadway car park to take the woman to hospital, and left the scene at around 6.20pm.

A police spokesman said: "The Hiace is believed to have been travelling towards Hall Ings from Jacob's Well. The woman is believed to have been crossing the road close to St George's Hall.

"Police would like to speak to anyone who saw the movements of either prior to the collision.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact PC 1437 Andrew Long at the Safer Roads and Neighbourhood Support team on 101, quoting log number 1193 of 14/3."

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

A report on accidents on Bradford's roads, released last year, showed that between 2010 and 2014 there had been 13 pedestrians injured in traffic accidents at the junction, and it was third in a list of junctions classed as being a "cause for concern."

Simon D'Vali, Principal Traffic and Highways Engineer on Bradford Council, said there had been a number of improvements at the junction in recent years.

He said: "Around 5,000 pedestrians use that junction each day, and the number of accidents there is steadily coming down. Safety improvements have been made at the junction, including signal timings."
