A MAN has been arrested after a Bradford man was stabbed in Pudsey last night.

Police were contacted shortly after 9.30pm when the 32-year-old victim went to Leeds General Infirmary with a serious stab wound to his chest.

It is believed he suffered the injury during an incident in Bradford Road, near to Thornbury Barracks, at about 9pm.

His condition is described as "stable."

The scene in Bradford Road is undergoing forensic examination, causing disruption to traffic, and investigations have also been taking place at the Asda petrol station at the Owlcotes Centre, where the victim's car was found.

A 19-year-old man, from Huddersfield, was arrested this morning in connection with the incident and is currently in custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Elizabeth Belton, of West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team (HMET), said: "This is clearly a very serious incident and we are conducting a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding it.

"We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident in Bradford Road at about 9pm last night, or who has any information that could assist the investigation."

There was a large police presence today as officers searched gardens, drains and bins as colleagues knocked on doors in search of witnesses near to a crime scene on Bradford Road.

Residents said they had heard several theories about what had happened.

A woman living nearby, who asked not to be named, said a witness had reported hearing a car stopping and a man "falling out" covered in blood.

A short time later the man and car had gone.

"It's just scary. What kind of society are we living in? You don't expect it to happen in this area," she said.

A woman neighbour was in bed around 9pm when she heard a "terrific amount of shouting".

Residents said a police tent had been put up which straddled the pavement and road.

A man who lives on Bradford Road said he heard raised voices last night but could not be sure of the time.

"It's a bit worrying isn't it? We have kids and have been here a few years but have never had anything like this. Police couldn't tell us anything, just that there had been a serious incident," he said.

The cordon marked by police tape was lifted at 3.30pm today as plain clothes officers continued to carry out door to door inquiries.

Searches of gardens were conducted by operational support unit officers in boiler suits.
