DETECTIVES investigating the stabbing of a Bradford man in Pudsey are now treating the incident as attempted murder.

The 32 year-old victim is in a critical condition in Leeds General Infirmary after he went to the hospital with a serious stab wound to his chest.

A 19-year-old Huddersfield man arrested in connection with the incident remains in police custody.

Police believe the man suffered the injury during an argument which happened in Bradford Road, Pudsey, near to Dawson's Corner, at about 9pm on Sunday.

An appeal has now been issued to trace drivers who may have passed the scene.

Detective Chief Inspector Elizabeth Belton, of West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team (HMET), said: "We believe a number of vehicles drove past the scene at the time the victim was being attacked and we would like to hear from those people.

"They may not have realised at the time how serious the incident was, and we would urge them to get in touch even if they don't think they saw anything of note."

The scene in Bradford Road underwent detailed forensic examination yesterday which caused disruption to traffic, and investigations also took place at the Asda petrol station at the Owlcotes Centre, where the victim's car was found.

Anyone with information is asked to contact HMET via 101, or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
