Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

Small or Medium Enterprise of the Year

sponsored by BHP Chartered Accountants

In this category, our panel will be looking for businesses with a turnover of up to £50 million and/or 250 employees or fewer, which show strong financial performance, good staff and customer care, and which demonstrate a real potential for future success.

We will also be looking at what kind of positive impact they have had on the community.

Candidates will need to show evidence of outstanding organisation, excellent financial returns, strong growth and innovative strategies.

Nominations may include details of principal products and services, any obstacles faced and overcome, and strategies for future growth and development.

Tong Garden Centre, which is one of the county's biggest independent garden centres on a 17-acre site near Tong Village, won the Small or Medium Enterprise of the Year Award in 2017.

It was acquired by Mark Farnsworth and Tom Megginson in May 2015 with a mission of re-establishing it as a destination outlet for all the family.

The commitment has been underpinned by an investment of more than £1 million and it saw an increase in turnover of 100 per cent in its first year.

Plants remain the heart of the business but the centre also stocks fashion and accessories, and has a butchery and bakery.

Our history dates back more than 150 years, but the name Barber, Harrison & Platt (BHP) was created in 1970 when three long-established firms of accountants merged to form a new practice.
