A BRADFORD darts player is on the cusp of qualifying for the finals of one of the sport's most prestigious nights.

Wyke thrower Joe Cullen knows he will play in the Cazoo Premier League Play-Offs on June 13 in Berlin if he beats world number one Peter Wright tonight.

The pair are set to lock horns in a blockbuster winner takes all quarter-final on the last night of league action in Newcastle.

With both players currently on 22 points, it is Cullen who occupies fourth place in the table due to the number of nights he has won during the event.

'The Rockstar' took home the £10,000 bonus on two occasions - out in Rotterdam (Night seven) and last week at The O2 (Night 15).

The tie is evenly poised with Cullen and Wright each sharing two wins over the other in their four meetings this campaign.

The former should be buoyed after securing a 6-1 win over the Scotsman last time out in London.

Speaking to the Telegraph & Argus last week, the 32-year-old said: "It's very exciting.

"I'm a big football fan, so I like this kind of competition. You can't ask for much more than to have it in your own hands, which I do. If I go and get beat then it's my fault.

"I'd rather have it that way instead of relying on other people to get the job done for me. If I win then I'm through and that's all that matters."

Cullen added: "Apart from a couple of nights in the Premier League this season, I do think I've underperformed really.

"But it has meant that I've been able to develop a new side to my game. I can now grind out results, which is something I've not really done before.

"With the Premier League being so demanding, you can't always win with amazing averages and because of that, you have to find different ways to win. I've shown I can do that now and it's something I will look to take forward in my career.

"In a way, it's more pleasing grinding out results than winning with a big average. It shows mental toughness and it also shows that I won't roll over easily."

Defending champion Jonny Clayton is guaranteed to top this year’s table with Michael van Gerwen and James Wade also safe in the remaining places.

Gerwyn Price and Michael Smith cannot qualify for the Play-Offs, while two-time winner Gary Anderson will finish bottom of this year’s table.

Tune in to Sky Sports when the action gets underway at 7pm to see how Cullen gets on.
