JOE Cullen celebrated his first win in the Cazoo Premier League and admitted: It was a special night.

The Bradford ace grabbed the five points after beating Michael van Gerwen in the final in Rotterdam.

Cullen silenced the 10,000-strong Dutch crowd with a 6-5 win over the former world number one.

Having already beaten Gary Anderson and Peter Wright, Cullen became the sixth different winner in the first seven weeks.

Cullen said: “It’s great to get the win. There’s nothing better than playing a Dutchman in their backyard.

“The crowd was unbelievable. I thought playing Jonny Clayton in Cardiff was special but this tops it.

“It’s a special night for me, especially to get the five points because I was struggling a bit at the bottom of the table but now I’m back.”

Cullen recovered from 4-3 down in a topsy-turvy final. Van Gerwen missed a double 16 to lead 5-4 before Cullen took out 114 to move within a leg of victory.

Van Gerwen took the contest to a sudden-death decider but Cullen rattled off back-to-back maximums on the way to winning the final leg on double four.

Cullen, who had earlier survived four match darts from last week’s winner Anderson, received the £10,000 bonus after his second final appearance.
