A VAPE shop boss has spoken out to confirm his premises does not “have anything to do” with a cannabis farm found by police in the building.

West Yorkshire Police released a statement yesterday that revealed two attacks on Monday in Shipley were believed to be linked to a cannabis farm in the area.

The force was first called to an outbreak of disorder and assault, where a car was badly smashed, in the early hours on that day at the junction of Wood End Crescent and West Royd Avenue.

The second altercation happened at 7.41pm on Monday, with two groups of individuals in the street and a blank firing cartridge was recovered from the scene.

Police said they also discovered a cannabis farm above a business in West Royd Avenue and the Telegraph & Argus took photos of officers coming in and out of a building at the back of a row of shops in Leeds Road.

James Howell, who co-owns 4:20 Vape & CBD Shop, confirmed the cannabis farm has nothing to do with his business and that the police presence has had a detrimental effect on his custom.

He said: “We don’t have anything to do with it whatsoever, we just rent the shop and have the shop there.

“I’m not blowing my own trumpet but we’ve been very successful over four years, two years through Covid and we’ve got three shops.”

Mr Howell added: “The police scene around there has affected business by 50 per cent since it happened.”

The business owner has worked hard over the years to build a good reputation and explained the meaning behind its name.

Mr Howell said: “We do sell CBD, hence where our name comes from 420, because we sell a lot of CBD products, we wanted to sell CBD and vape products.”

The T&A visited the scene on Wednesday and saw the building where police were seen entering was boarded up.

Mr Howell said: “A lot do say it’s a bad area but as a business we’ve not had anything bad happen to us.

“The customers are all nice.”

He added: “But it happens in all areas, it just sort of happens, gang crime happened there which police resolved.”
