Residents have described their shock after waking up to a large police scene on their doorsteps.
West Yorkshire Police descended upon Woodend Crescent, just off Leeds Road in Shipley, just before 1am on Monday, June 5.
Officers received reports of an incident of disorder and assault - sparking a huge police operation.
A damaged car with cracked windows could be seen next to a pile of shattered glass within the cordon.
Investigators clad in black police uniform carried out enquiries at a nearby property.
Some were wielding heavy tools while others carried cameras and evidence bags.
A number of police vehicles arrived at the scene throughout the day, including unmarked BMWs, 4x4s and crime scene investigation vans.
In a statement, a police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to reports of an incident of disorder and assault just off Leeds Road, Shipley at 12.39am today. Enquiries into this incident are ongoing.”
One woman who lives in the cul-de-sac said: "I opened the curtains this morning and everything was happening. I never heard a thing. In the cul-de-sac it's very quiet. There's never been any trouble round here. This is the most we had and then we missed it!"
Another man said his partner noticed the crime scene during a trip to the post office earlier in the day.
He said: “That was when we knew there was a crime scene. We did ask what's the crack and they said they can't say anything."
When asked about what the area is normally like for crime, he said: "It's not manic. There's stuff, I wouldn't say it's bad but you can tell there's a bit going on around. It's a little bit sketchy."
Describing what the area is normally like, one business owner said: "It's good for business, especially the barbershop. Everyone needs a haircut."
His friend, who grew up in the Leeds Road area, said: "Everyone knows each other."
The businessman woke up to texts saying there was a police cordon in the streets surrounding his shop.
He said: "There were different police cars. I went to open my shop, I was quite busy I had bookings all morning."
Another neighbour, who recently moved to the area, said: "It's normally quiet. I didn't know what was going on. I didn't hear anything."
An passer-by who saw the police presence said: "Police were cordoning off a scene off Leeds Road in a quiet residential area.
"The scene was small but forensic officers were taking scene images of the car in the road and the smashed windscreen.
"It looked very serious and the police were very serious about it and were taking details from those at the scene."
