The day of King Charles III’s royal visit to Bradford has arrived.

His Majesty The King will start his day at Morrisons head office, where he will meet people from the business farming, community, sustainability and apprenticeship programmes. 

King Charles will also see some of Morrisons Market Street's fresh food counters and talk to butchers, bakers and fishmongers. 

After His Majesty’s visit to the head office, he will then make his way to Bradford City Hall to attend a reception with young leaders from across Bradford. 

Here’s everything you need to know about the timings, road closures, updated bus routes and diversions, and where you can get a glimpse of the king.



When is King Charles coming to Bradford?

King Charles III will arrive for his royal visit to Bradford at lunchtime on Tuesday, November 8, 2022.

All are invited to come to Centenary Square to welcome the King to Bradford, the Council said.

His Majesty will be greeted by the Lord-Lieutenant and the Lord Mayor of Bradford at City Hall and will do a walkabout in Centenary Square.

His Majesty to be escorted up civic steps and into City Hall for a reception where he will meet 30 young leaders from across the district.

Bradford road closures for the King’s visit

There will be some disruption in the city centre between approximately 11am and 3pm due to security reasons.

As a result, some buses will be rerouted and the taxi rank at the back of City Hall will be closed.



Affected bus routes

There will be changes to some bus services on Tuesday due to security reasons.

Affected bus services include the 67, 607, 612, 614, 617, 618, 626, 633, 636, 637, 640, 641, 645, 662, 686, 687 and X11.

Bus services on Sunbridge Road, Market Street and Bridge Street are all affected by the royal visit between 11.45am and 2.45pm.

Bus diversions for the royal visit

These Bradford bus services will divert due to security measures around the royal visit:

  • Service 67 and 662 will not be stopping at Sunbridge Road. Alternative stops: Barry Street (the 67), Westgate (the Shuttle) and Bradford Interchange 
  • Service 607 from Broadway will be diverting via Bridge Street, Hall Ings, Princes Way and Godwin Street to the normal route. The 607 into Bradford city centre will divert as above to Hall Ings, Bank Street and Broadway. The 607 will not be stopping at Sunbridge Road stop S4.
  • Services 617, 618 and 620 from Bradford Interchange will be diverting outbound via Nelson Street, Princes Way and Godwin Street to the normal route, in both directions.
  • Services 617, 618, and 620 will not be stopping on Sunbridge Road 
  • Service 626 from Bradford Interchange will divert outbound via Nelson Street, Princes Way, Godwin Street, Drewton Road and Manningham Lane to normal route, in both directions. The 626 will not be stopping on Market Street, Cheapside or Manor Row
  • Service 633 from Bradford Interchange will divert outbound via Nelson Street, Princes Way, Godwin Street, Drewton Road and Hamm Strasse to normal route in both directions.
  • 633 will not be stopping on Sunbridge Road during this event.
  • Services 640 and 641 will divert via Hall Ings, Leeds Road, Shipley Airedale Road and Bolton Road to Normal Route.
  • The 640 and 641 will not be stopping on Market Street, Bradford Cathedral or Wapping Street during this event.
  • Services 645, 686, 687 and X11 will divert via Hall Ings, Leeds Road, Shipley Airedale Road and Barkerend Road to normal routes towards Greengates, Fagley and Bradford Moor. These services will not be stopping on Market Street, Church Bank or Upper Park Gate.
