Police are at the scene of a major incident this morning after a man was found dead in a Bradford street.

Saffron Drive, in Allerton, has been cordoned off and a police forensic tent is in place.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "At 4.25am today police received a report of a man lying in the road in Saffron Drive, Bradford.

"Emergency services attended and the man was pronounced dead at the scene."

Buses are being diverted away from the area while investigations continue.

One resident said: “It’s Allerton, it’s like any other area. We have some problems, but I don’t think this is gang violence or anything like that.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

“Obviously it’s not nice having this happen close to your house, but I’m not that concerned. I don’t think there’s some madman on the loose or anything like that.

“If it kept happening then I would be getting a bit worried, I have children, but this isn’t anything to do with me so I’m not too concerned."

Councillor Richard Dunbar (Labour, Thornton and Allerton) said the community in Allerton were "shocked" by what had happened.

He said: "It is quite shocking to wake up to this news, and the police have acted very quickly on this.

"Allerton is usually quite a quiet area and it is a great place full of great people with a strong community spirit.

"It is really community focused and everyone looks out for each other, so naturally this has shocked the community and people are concerned.

"I have spoken to numerous people who are all rightfully concerned about what has happened.

"I would urge anyone who has any information to please go to the police and speak to them about it."

Anyone who has any information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting log 180 of 1 July, or report online at westyorkshire.police.uk/101livechat.
