Murder squad detectives have descended on a business park as their probe into the death of a man in Allerton took a new twist, with one officer reportedly describing the case as “a lot worse than first thought.”

Denholme Business Centre, in Halifax Road near Denholme village, was swarmed by police teams including crime scene investigators yesterday evening and has been a hive of police activity throughout today.

One resident said between 20 and 30 officers gathered round the building “like you see on TV before they rush in”.

Since the swoop, forensics officers in white suits have been seen coming and going from the building’s reception.

West Yorkshire Police have remained tight-lipped about what, if anything, they have found at the business park.

But they did reveal the force is conducting enquiries at the business park in connection with the death of Mohammad Feazan Ayaz, ahed 20, from Bradford.

He was found lifeless and completely naked on Saffron Drive in Allerton in the early hours of Monday morning.

Detectives from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team are continuing enquiries into the circumstances of his death, which is being treated as suspicious.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

A 34-year-old man from Bradford, who was arrested on suspicion of murder, has been released 'with no further action being taken,' police revealed this evening.

This morning, a West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Police are conducting enquiries at Denholme Business Centre in connection with the death of the 20-year-old man who was found in Allerton in the early hours of Monday.

“This is an ongoing investigation so we are unable to release any details regarding the nature of these enquiries.”

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

Staff from businesses based there have been asked where they were on Sunday and Monday.

Police could be seen using a drone on two occasions to get a view of the complex from the air.

There are an estimated 35-50 businesses based at the site.

The search initially centred on the building’s reception, from where there’s a big walkway leading to all the units.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

There is said to be a mix of permanent and temporary tenants.

One business owner said: “They rent them to anybody.”

Forensics officers could be seen swabbing for fingerprints inside the building, before blocking the view of one particular window with a police van.

The business park has been shut down while the investigation takes place.

One business owner was told by a senior officer that the probe could take “days, instead of hours”.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

Stewart Darvill, from Darvill Removals, said: “From what we can gather it’s a murder investigation.

“It’s a bit of a shock when you have something like that happen so close. Sometimes it can be 12 o'clock at night if you’re bringing the van back, it’s a little bit off-putting.

“We’re a removal company and we’ve had to cancel three removals so far.

“It has a big effect on us.

“A lot of business owners have gone home.

“We’ve been here since first thing this morning. They put the drone out - they can see a penny on the ground.

“There’s more police inside. They just swooped on it last night.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

“There were more police officers last night, more forensics today.”

“We’ve been here nearly six years, we have the biggest unit here at the back.

“There’s businesses to kitchen glazing companies or a removal company. There’s all sorts.”

Late yesterday afternoon, there were 17 police vehicles at the scene.

A group of officers could be seen closely inspecting a couple of cars and vans around the back of the business centre, as well as the floor near the vehicles.

Three or four of the centre’s units have been empty and these were also targeted by forensic teams.

M Darvill said: “It’s scary enough round here as it is. It’s eerie.”

The businessman said he was speaking with a senior officer and he said: “This case is a lot worse than I first thought.”

Mr Darvill said police have been “great” after they let him move three vans out so his team can get to work.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

But the investigation seems far from over with many feeling “curious” about how the business units are linked with Mr Ayaz’s death.

A local man said that the building is massive and it may take some time for police to search every nook and cranny.

Meanwhile a resident nearby, who didn’t want to be named, said: “All I know really is that it’s linked with a murder.

“They arrived around 5ish last night and I saw them staged for the operation.

“It just makes you think if someone’s been hiding out here.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

“I wouldn’t go as far as to say I’m worried, the police know their stuff. Just curious more than anything. It’s more (police presence) than I’ve seen in one place.”

On Tuesday, Senior Investigating Officer Detective Superintendent Mark Swift, said: “While our enquiries are still at a relatively early stage our information now suggests there were others involved in this man’s death, as he was found with a number of injuries which suggest he may have been assaulted.”

Anyone with information should call the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team on 101, quoting crime reference 13190331451.
