Morrisons Memories

"Send us your memories of shopping or working at Morrisons over the years."

We asked for your responses - this is what you sent.

What is your response? My Mother used to buy butter and eggs every week from Ken's Mother in Kirkgate Market. Ken rented two lockups which opened onto the road, knocked them into one and placed hand baskets at the entrance a till by the exit. Because of the low prices everyone in Bradford must have shopped there. I was there the first week it opened. I still shop at Morrisons. Am I Ken's longest buying customer?

What is your response?I had the pleasure of working at Hilmore House in the early 70's and Ken Morrison was there every day, mostly with his shirt sleeves rolled up. He cared about his staff and was very much part of us, I remember working late one evening for stock taking and he came round & made us a cup of tea. He often 'perched' on the end of the desk to chat, knew our names and once when the apple packing machine broke down, he was there with volunteer staff packing with us (and yes we did get paid for our time) he was a worker and was prepared to muck in with anything that needed doing. A wonderful man who appreciated those who worked for him. a lovely kind man and an example for others to follow. My sincere sympathy to his family but I hope knowing how much he was loved by all who knew him gives them some comfort at this sad time. ❤

What is your response?I remember Ken delivering my order every week as far back as 1957 .in them days I had two young children. He would have a chat and if he had time would have a cup of tea sat on my front door step. The shop was down by the side of the fish market then. Over the years I have been to the different stores and I still shop at morrisons every week after sixty one years. They always had a good variety of branded tin food to chose from. You always got good value for your money.
