25 years ago: Bradford was better than most at getting youngsters in full-time jobs. Figures by the Manpower Services Commission showed that 70 per cent of the 3,000 young people on the city’s Youth Training Schemes got jobs. The national average was 60 per cent.
50 years ago: Bradford City Council approved a rate of 21s 9d in the pound, a reduction of 3d. There was no opposition to the proposal but Labour members were highly critical of the budget, which was described as a “lollypop”.
