Bradford Labour movement is to rise in protest against the Conservatives' planned £5 million cuts in spending. The Trades Council is launching a campaign to fight the measures. Councillor Derek Smith, secretary of the Trades Council, said that before the last local government election in May the Labour group, which was then in control, prompted a £7 million growth programme.

A successful year in examinations and an increase in the numbers of students attending the School of Food Technology was reported. Principal George Garside announced the news at the annual exhibition prize distribution at the college, in Usher Street, Bradford.
