25 years ago: “The Enforcer,” thought to be the country’s first enforcement officer, took to the streets in an effort to cut down on fly tipping in the district and increase prosecutions. The identity of the Bradford Council employee was kept anonymous to prevent reprisal attacks.
50 years ago: The final preparations were being put in place for the opening of Tong Comprehensive School, the first fully comprehensive school in the city. The building cost £500,000 to construct and was due to open on September 1.
