25 years ago: Blacksmith Joe Gatenby got a shock when he read on his 88th birthday that he had died. A local history group booklet, called Remembering Laisterdyke, said the widower had spent his life as farrier and served his wartime service shoeing army horse, but had popped his clogs. Mr Gatenby got an apology.
50 years ago: A quarterly meeting of Bradford Chamber of Trade heard that at least 50 per cent of the shops in the Bradford central area were making a loss.
