From the Telegraph & Argus of November 14, 1981...Tom Torney last night surprised the political pundits by being re-selected as parliamentary Labour candidate for Bradford South, the seat he has held since 1970. It had been widely predicted that he would be ousted by West Yorkshire's Euro MP, Dr Barry Seal, in a three-cornered battle which also included Bradford councillor Bernard Kearns.

From the Telegraph & Argus of November 14, 1956...Crush barriers placed around Bradford's Ritz Corner yesterday to try to prevent people crossing in all directions at the Leeds Road, New Bank Street Junction did not stop pedestrians from walking across the road at all tangents at the tea-time rush hour. Today the police were at trouble corner' to point out to those who did not observe the pedestrian crossing that they were in the wrong. The problems at the junction have been acute because of the big excavation job being tackled on Broadway.
