From the Telegraph & Argus of November 13, 1981...A Bradford mother has to cook for her family on a wood fire in the garden because her gas and electricity have been cut off. For the last fortnight, Phyllis Copley, of Norbury Road, Ravenscliffe, has been up at dawn in the bitter cold, to boil a pan of milk and at lunchtime rekindles the fire to cook some potatoes. Mrs Copley, 51, had the electricity cut off because the YEB said the bill had not been paid when she was at a previous address. Mrs Copley claims Social Security have done nothing to help her, although they know about her plight.

From the Telegraph & Argus of November 13, 1956...In the donations today, which brought up the total of the Hungarian relief fund launched by Lord Mayor of Bradford to £1,794, was one for five pound with a story behind it. The sender Ronald Duck, of 21, Rimswell Hold, Greengates, wrote to the Lord Mayor, Councillor Ald H R Walker. He said: "My wife and I feel it is our duty to give shelter to a Hungarian refugee. We were both in the hands of the Germans in the last war and we both escaped into Poland."
