Further to previous correspondence about the grand old department store Brown, Muff, we’ve had a lovely picture sent to us by Anne Hall, who now lives in Beverley, near Hull.

She writes in her accompanying letter: “I too worked at Brown, Muff in the Fifties. I was in the fashion department, when Miss Bridge was our buyer.

“My uncle, Mr Val Gibson, was also there at that time, in the fabric department, and would you believe my mother actually worked there in the 1920s.

“I met my husband at BMs, Alan Hall (shoe department and water buyer) and we married in 1957. Quite a family concern!

“When Miss Bridge retired, Michael Marriott became our buyer and I remember we all went to his wedding when he married June Sawkins (also staff).

“He used to put on really super fashion shows. June and I took part, together with models from London.

“It was a lovely store to work in, my husband and I often talk about the happy times we spent there.”
