Two experienced pairs of newcomers took two of the top three places in the Heckmondwike Petanque Club's inaugural club pairs event at Firth Park.

An incredibly close finish saw just two points separate the top three pairs, who won all four of their games.

Roy and Isobel Pearson came top of the pile to celebrate joining the club from the private Ashdene, Halifax, club with plus-34.

Viv Kendrick and Steve Penny were second, on plus-33, with Alan and Pam Wallace, also from Ashdene, third on plus-32.

Eleven teams competed in the event at the club, which now boasts 41 members. The club is open to all ages and abilities and free taster sessions are available. Just turn up at any session, Wednesdays 1pm or Saturday 10am.
