Cath Gallimore was twice named player of the match as Bingley Bees Seconds played two Yorkshire League games in as many days but was unable to inspire a victory in either.

The Bees picked up a handy 1-1 draw at fellow mid-table Division Four side Doncaster Independent Firsts but ran out of steam as they lost 4-0 at home to promotion-chasing Halifax Thirds the following day.

Doncaster opened the scoring in the first five minutes of the Saturday game and although both teams had equal possession, most of the first-half hockey was played at Bingley’s end.

The Bees defence worked hard to deny their opponents many further opportunities to strike at goal, with keeper Rachel Fuller dealing well with anything that did get through.

This determined display was rewarded when a break from midfield between Sian Porter and Gallimore led to an equaliser.

Gallimore ran down the right wing and made a clean pass to Jane Sharkey, who was well positioned to chip the ball past the Doncaster keeper.

Unfortunately the Bees found a second weekend game too much to handle as Halifax took advantage of their tiring hosts to run in four goals without reply.

This game had been rearranged after a postponement due to bad weather earlier in the season and Bingley found themselves 2-0 down at the interval.

The Bees worked hard in the second half, believing they could get back in the match, but a third Halifax goal ten minutes after the restart left an almost impossible task.

Sharkey, Gallimore and Racheal Belk had shots blocked by the Halifax keeper but although there was excellent work by defender Michelle Clarke and midfielder Becky Tatham, it was Halifax who had the final say.
