Already missing four players, Ben Rhydding men’s first team could have done without losing England international Sam French after just one minute of their Men’s North Premier Division match against visitors Bowdon-2.

French had just scored with a fantastic drag-flick from a penalty corner.

Bowdon equalised shortly after but Ben Rhydding then brought on David Cutter, who converted a beautiful ball from skipper David Exley to put Rhydding back in front.

Cutter then set up the next goal, threading the ball through intelligently to Josh Sykes, who controlled well, only to be smothered by the keeper.

Struan Connor was on hand to mop up, however, and make it 3-1 but by half-time it was 3-3.

Bowdon changed from four to three at the back and went on to win 6-3 as Ben Rhydding tired.

Danny Foster gave a brave performance for the hosts and did well to carry on after sustaining a nasty blow to the head. Sykes also ran hard for Ben Rhydding.
