Bingley Bees’ men turned in their best performance of the season to hold Yorkshire Division Six North leaders Harrogate fourths to a 2-2 draw.

The Bees, playing two wide men, opened strongly and had the home defence worried from the outset.

Several early chances were created and Matthew Clough fired Bingley ahead from a solidly-struck short corner midway through the first half.

Harrogate hit back well to level the scores, only for Clough to pounce again from another short corner to give the Bees an interval lead.

Strong performances from the entire Bees squad meant the hosts were frustrated in all but one attack in the second half, the equaliser coming with just seven minutes to go.

Stephen Booth and goalkeeper Jonathan Higgins stood out during what was a superb team display.

Bingley’s two ladies sides both won to complete an excellent day for the club.

The first team avenged a draw against Harrogate the last time they met by claiming a 2-0 victory which keeps them top of the table.

Sarah Hall was unlucky not to score when a strong strike early in the first half hit the far post.

A 0-0 interval scoreline did not reflect the run of play and the Bees came out for the second half in determined mood.

A brilliant solo run by Gail Day from the halfway line resulted in the opening goal and this was quickly followed by a reverse-stick sweep into the net by man of the match Nancy Moore.

Meanwhile, the second team travelled to play Horsforth firsts and gained a 4-0 win, with Claire Watkins the star player.

Janice Reid opened the scoring with a great run from outside the D, before Jane Sharkey doubled the advantage.

Cath Gallimore then struck the ball in the left-hand corner of the goal to make it 3-0 and a fantastic solo run and shot from Sharkey produced her second goal.

A strong defensive display by Bingley meant Horsforth never came close to replying.
