Bradford Badgers were unable to make the most of 80 per cent possession and had to settle for a 3-3 away draw against a Huddersfield Development side they had taken apart earlier in the season.

Slick passing and movement allowed Bradford to dominate, beginning straight from the push back as Mathew Stubley took the ball to the opposing circle with the whole team moving up as a unit and only a last-ditch tackle prevented a goal.

The game was played around the Huddersfield circle, with Daniel Stubley orchestrating the play, but strikers Ethan Hodson and Dominic Brinkworth were unable to find the net against an in-form Huddersfield keeper.

A long hit out of defence was chased down by Huddersfield and a slip by Badgers keeper Katrina Scott allowed the hosts to open the scoring totally against the run of play.

Ben Bateson continued to keep Bradford on top but Huddersfield again capitalised on a long ball to unbelievably move 2-0 up.

Daniel Stubley reduced the deficit with a fine shot from the edge of the circle while facing away from goal and continued pressure brought an equaliser from Paul Bateson, who cleverly chipped the keeper after excellent work from Hodson and Mathew Stubley.

Huddersfield scored again early in the second half from another break but Bradford’s continued quick passing and movement brought a total of 14 penalty corners.

Stubley, Hodson and Kieran Feeley were unlucky not to score from any of these but finally Guy Sutcliffe made a tackle inside the Huddersfield half and, from his excellent pass, Mathew Stubley and Charlie Western combined to set up Hodson and he turned the ball in at the near post.

Bradford pressed for a winner but the Huddersfield keeper kicked and cleared desperately as the final whistle went.

Meanwhile, the Bradford first team scored an excellent 4-1 win at Wakefield despite not playing to their best after a strong start.

Bradford became a little sloppy after gaining a 3-0 advantage but had a little luck for a change and ultimately could have had a couple more goals with the right pass at the right time.

The second team were also convincing winners, 3-0 at home to Leeds Adel fifths after Bram Large had opened the scoring inside five minutes.

The Bradford defence was solid as ever and provided the foundation for the team to move forward.

The midfield trio of Nick Hayes, Steve Adamson and Joe Bartholomew dominated, with Bartholomew in particular producing a hard-working defensive display to disrupt the Adel team.

Adel grew in confidence as the half progressed but Bradford resisted some pressure in the ten minutes leading up to half-time and a quick break saw Colin Whitehead on the right slip the ball square to Bram Large and his cross to the penalty spot was slotted home by Paul Wilkinson.

The hosts camped in Adel’s half for long periods of the second half but the only additional goal came from Colin Whitehead after a perfect pass from young left back Guy Sutcliffe.

Bradford thirds suffered an 11-0 defeat away to Leeds Adel.

The club’s under-14 girls beat York B 1-0 with a goal from Liz Wilkinson, after good work by Lizzie Gibbons and Grace Tattersall.

But they followed up with an unlucky defeat to Slazengers by the same score, the only goal coming two minutes from the end.
