Despite missing a couple of regulars, Bradford put on a good show against a strong Huddersfield side in Yorkshire Division Two.

A hard-fought first half ended 0-0, due to excellent goalkeeping by both sides and a reluctance on Bradford’s part to shoot when in the opposition circle.

Huddersfield took the lead early in the second half with a scrappy goal, initially saved by man of the match Rob Terry and Tom Hardill.

Bradford continued to look dangerous going forward and should have at least levelled but were guilty of either delaying the final strike or not executing the final pass with the opposition outnumbered.

The hosts continued to press for an equaliser in an end-to-end game, but, with ten minutes left, conceded from a penalty corner.

Heads didn’t drop but, to add insult to injury, Huddersfield were awarded a penalty corner on the final whistle, which was converted to give a rather misleading final scoreline.

Bradford’s second team made hard work of winning 2-1 in an ill-tempered Division Six match at nine-man Bradley.

The hosts were warned several times by the umpires, but worked well together as a team.

Bradford failed to make the extra men count and went in 1-0 down at half-time.

However, some stern words during the break ensured that the visitors got their act together. Following a well-worked equaliser, Tom McGowan won the game for Bradford with a scrappy goal midway through the second half..

Four of the players from the earlier game at Bradley journeyed to Wakefield to help a very young Bradford Third team play an experienced Wakefield Fifth team in Division Seven.

The home team included Norman Hughes, stalwart of the Great Britain bronze-medal winning team at the 1988 Olympics.

In a game played in an excellent spirit, Wakefield’s experience, under the leadership and stick-trickery of Hughes, gradually wore down Bradford’s youngsters, who trailed 3-0 at half-time. Bradford upped their effort in the second half, scoring two goals early on before Wakefield went on to win 6-2, despite two stunning saves from Charlie Western.

Last Sunday, a scratch Bradford Second team beat Leeds University Sixths 7-0.

Goals from Joe Bartholemew and Adam Ashton gave Bradford a 2-0 half-time advantage, Colin Whitehead netting a hat-trick and McGowan adding two goals in the second half.

Bradford are champions of Yorkshire League Under-12 Boys’ League Division Two.

Alex Stewart netted the only goal in their 1-0 victory over Harrogate but they lost the plot in a 1-0 defeat against Airedale.

However, Spike Johnson was twice on target as Driffield were beaten 2-0 and Sheffield were torn apart 5-0 in the final match.

Stewart bagged a hat-trick, Carter Singleton finished off the move of the day and Logan Wood, replacing Stewart as centre forward, got the fifth.
