Teenager Jack Challoner won the DT Smith Trophy Trial at Addingham Moorside riding, for the first time, a powerful 290cc Beta-UK machine.

Challoner has been having to ride a 125cc Beta machine in world and European events but from January is free to ride any capacity machine.

The 17-year-old Halifax competitor managed to beat top national trials winners Dan Thorpe and Chris Pearson, while Mirfield’s Josh Maude ran away with the Youth class.

Over 100 riders took part on a two-lap course, with sections at three different venues.

Club chairman Mike Hinch ran a separate event for seven youngsters and this saw James Taylor reign supreme.
