Skipton Craven won the Eric Hutchinson Memorial Trophy for the first time following a narrow 218-210 win over 2009 winners Shipley Club.

Skipton were slower out of the blocks and trailed by seven chalks after four jacks, despite wins from Robbie Ellis (21-20) and Pauline Lowrie (21-14).

After eight jacks, Skipton trailed by 15 chalks, as each team carded four winners, with wins for Skipton from Wayne Smithies (21-13) and Mick Demain (21-18).

The back four for Skipton were all winners, as they turned around a 15-point deficit into an eight-point win.

Cowcliffe Libs A were winners of The Derrick Radley Trophy, beating Cleckheaton Moor End 224-220 in the final.

Cleckheaton got off to the better start, leading by 15 chalks with three out of the first four winners. Back came Cowcliffe with three winners in the middle four to reduce the deficit to four chalks. The game remained in the balance until the end, with the team from Huddersfield narrowly taking the title.

Andy Spragg, from Chesterfield, and Bolton’s Kevan Shaw were the latest qualifiers in the £5,000 Brighouse Classic, sponsored by Naylor Wintersgill (Chartered Accountants).

Spragg beat Roy Sutton from Huddersfield 21-13 and Shaw edged a close game against Peter Craig (Rochdale) 21-19.

The qualifying continues on Friday, when Andrew Cairns and Tommy John-stone open against the Bridlington pair Chris Bielby and Andy Deighton.

Smith came through with wins over Amanda Nicholas (Wrexham) 21-10, 2009 champion Chris Mordue (Brighouse Sports) 21-18 and team-mate Peter Wilcox (Crossgates) 21-16. Booth made it through with wins over Tony Green (Crossgates) 21-13, Craig Hill (Dearne Sports) 21-18 and Tony Riley (Brighouse Sports) 21-8.
