Ilkley Lawn Tennis & Squash Club are staging some top-class action this coming weekend.

They are hosting the Italik Yorkshire Junior Squash Championships – one of the biggest competitions in the county.

The Ilkley club’s squash coach Robbie Burnett said: “Players from all over the county will be trying to win the Yorkshire titles.

“It is a great chance for Ilkley people to come down and watch a number of top junior players in action.

“Matches start on Saturday (9am-7pm) and there is also play on Sunday from 9am, with the finals from 2pm, and Ilkley have a number of players in many age groups.”

Millie Pughe is top seed in the girls’ under-17s, Tom Pughe is third seed in the boys’ under-19s, Jack Bearpark fourth seed in the boys’ under-17s and Stu MacGregor third seed in the boys’ under-15s.

Other Ilkley players in the boys’ under-15s are Matt Heap, James Morgan and Gavin Hogg, while Ben Bearpark and Charles Smith are in the boys’ under-13s, Eve Silson in the girls’ under-13s and James Silson in the boys’ under-11s.

“It is really pleasing to see so many Ilkley players in the event and hopefully they will all perform well,” said Burnett.

“Many players have been training over the summer, so hopefully there will be some good performances.”

A number of the players were involved in the North-East Area Championships last weekend, Jack Bearpark finishing third in the boys’ under-17s.

But there were also good results for MacGregor, Heap and Hogg in the boys’ under-15s, James Silson in the boys’ under-11s, where he was seventh, and Ben Bearpark, who was ninth in the boys’ under-11s.
