Boathouse have climbed to the top of National League Division Three North after two victories at York College.
They defeated University of Birmingham 3-1 and hosts York 3-0 to take their record to five wins from six matches and edge out the Brummies from top spot on sets average.
It was the most accomplished display of the season so far from Boathouse, who ended the students’ 100 per cent record despite losing the opening set 25-20.
However, buoyed by the new Polish pairing of setter Radek Mastalerz and hitter Tomasz Szlempo, Boathouse took two closely-contested sets before running away with the fourth 25-8.
Against York, who included former Boathouse captain Mike Turner, the Dewsbury-based club maintained the level of play they showed against Birmingham.
Mo Bucksun and Siya Qadari shone in middle defence and Leeds’ Matt Kapala scored with powerful hits from the wing.
Boathouse squad: Maythem Ali, Mo Bucksun, Radek Mastalerz, Tomasz Szlempo, David Hübner, Steve Kay, Siya Qadiri, Matt Kapala, Laurent Zeiller.
