Leeds Karate Academy, who now have a full-time training venue at Springfield Commercial Centre in Farsley, have been boosted by the upgrading of one of their members.
At the KUGB Special Dan Course at Egham in Surrey, a panel consisting of Sensei Andy Sherry (8th Dan) and 7th Dans Sensei Bob Poynton and Frank Brennan, Daryn Hobden achieved a 3rd Dan Black Belt.
Daryn, 37, started karate at Aberystwyth in 1982, where he graded to Green belt.
On moving to Harrogate, Daryn started training at the Leeds Karate Academy, graded to Black Belt in 2004 and has trained diligently ever since.
Daryn said: “I am so pleased to have passed the grading – the whole club has been so supportive and encouraging.”
Daryn, who works as a web designer and designed the club’s website, has two children who both train at the club, Madeline, aged nine, and James, aged six.
Club instructor Nick Heald, a 6th Dan Black Belt, said: “Daryn’s dedication has been superb.”
