Rookie Joe Sykes won a bronze medal at a major competition after only taking up the sport earlier this year.
The Silsden youngster finished third at Ground Control, which is the biggest submission wrestling tournament in the north of England.
Sykes, 15, trains at the Olympik Dream Centre in Crosshills and his trainer Duane Harper said the medal was well deserved.
“For Joe to win a medal at such an event is fantastic as he has put in a great amount of training in such a short space of time,” said Harper.
“Joe has only been in the sport for seven months, which is testament to his hard work and determination.”
