Two of Bradford's sides got off to a fantastic start in the first round of Yorkshire Inter-District League fixtures at the weekend.

The billiards team had a superb 5-2 victory against a very good Harrogate side at Great Horton Conservative Club.

Stephen Kershaw built up a substantial lead initially against Tim Godolphin but the Harrogate player pulled back to only trail 157-152 before Kershaw made a timely 37 break and run out a 200-152 winner.

Bradford's Paul Devitt then took on one of Yorkshire's most successful players in Stephen Crosland, and the pair exchanged breaks in the mid-30s to leave the scores fairly close as the halfway stage approached.

Crosland then took complete control and made breaks of 60 and 36 unfinished, winning comfortably  200-111.

In the final match, John McEachran took on Tom Halliday and was consistent without being spectacular but had done enough to secure a 200-126 victory, taking the aggregate point along with it.

Bradford's No 1 snooker side weren't in action, their match at Sheffield No 3 having to be rearranged, but the No 2 team travelled to Selby and came away with a deserved 4-2 win.

Bradford champion Gareth Green won both his frames, the first 71-0 and the second 45-38 against C Jackson, while Tanveer Mohammed lost a black-ball opener to Kev Hawksworth but recovered well to win 65-7 and put the visitors 3-1 ahead.

Captain Hanif Rafiq lost 67-35 to Daz Hawkins, but took the final frame of the night 65-33 to wrap up the victory.

The next round of fixtures is scheduled for the weekend of October 27-28, when the billiards side travel to Huddersfield No 2, Bradford No 1 entertain Castleford No 1 and Bradford No 2 host Wakefield No 1.

The deadline for entries into the Hey's Trophy team snooker competition has now passed and the draw has been made.
