BRADFORD NO 1 AA

Round five of this year’s Calder League was moved to Mirfield canal and was won by Tony Earnshaw with 10lb 6oz of roach on waggler and caster. Kevin Hartley caught 9lb 3oz of roach for second followed by Jamie Houlders with 8lb 12oz. Mirfield were the winning team on the day with 43 points, which sees them take the overall title for the series with one match remaining. The final members’ match of the year is at Cowthorpe on Sunday, with Andy Jacques going into the match leading the aggregate weight by just 1lb. Tickets are available from Simon on 01274-571175. Members are reminded that the trout season on rivers is now closed so trout should not be specifically targeted on any of the club’s waters. Club membership for the remainder of the year is now half price, available online (www.bradfordno1.com) or from the ticket & licence secretary. There are still some 2012 night permits available for Kirklees Lagoon which are also half price for the rest of the year. Contact the ticket & licence secretary as they are on a first come, first served basis. This year’s annual meeting is on Wednesday night at Spenborough United Ex-Servicemen’s Club in Cleckheaton. All members are encouraged to attend and to vote. Entry is granted upon production of a current yearbook and seats must be taken by 7.30pm. Members match-winners are asked to attend to collect their trophies.

BIERLEY AC

Last weekend’s Captain Mannering 24-hour carp match was a sponsored event with all proceeds donated to Marie Curie Cancer Care Bradford. Tackles 2U provided tackle for prizes and Rafiq’s West Bowling provided food. More than £1,000 was raised. A big thank you to the work party who cleared weed on the top pond. Last match on top pond: 1 D Glenton 8lb 14oz, 2 R Waterhouse 7lb 12oz, 3 T Mahon 7lb.

LISTERHILLS AA

For Sunday’s members’ match at Pilley’s the gate will be open at 8.30am, with the draw at 8.45am. After the draw, vacant pegs may be used for pleasure fishing. The last of the Saturday series of open matches at Rodley is on October 13. This weekend is the closing date for specimen fish entries to be submitted.

LEEDS AC

Gusting winds and rain made it difficult in the Ian Smith Memorial Open at Rodley. It proved to be a day for the small fish experts. Winner was Richard Thorne with 3lb 11oz, 2 Eddie Harrison 3lb 8oz, 3 Marc Mannion 2lb 4½oz, 4 Mick Patton 1lb 11oz, 5 Les Passey 1lb 7oz. Thanks to Listerhills AA who donated the pegs. Proceeds were shared between The British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research.

BRADFORD & DISTRICT SEA AC

We have a trip to Liverpool Bay this Sunday. Anyone wishing to go should telephone Dave on 07711-987833 to book your place. Places are limited on this trip, so book early. WASHBURN VALLEY FISHERY

Catch details for week endng September 30 – Day ticket: Fewston 7, Swinsty 2, Thruscross (catch & return) 0. Total fish caught: Fewston 19, Swinsty 4, Thruscross 0. Average per rod: Fewston 2.7, Swinsty 2.0, Thruscross 0. The heaviest fish caught was a 3lb 10oz rainbow trout by A Baxter using dog’s tail (lure). Fewston and Swinsty: Some good fish taken mainly on weighted lures in deep water. Thruscross: Not the best end to our wild brown trout season, with far too much wind and rain.

GRATTAN AC
