Crossgates won the Bradford Saturday League title for a second successive year after defeating Clayton A 20-10 to edge Pudsey A into second place in the Naylor section.

Despite a slow start, losing their first two games, Crossgates showed their class to retain the title they won for the first time last year. Rufford A and Asa Briggs A are relegated after just one season in the top flight.

Shipley Club returned to the elite section after capturing the Godwin (Division Two) title, closing with a 25-5 demolition of Guiseley A.

Eccleshill B, who just missed out on promotion last season, finished runners-up despite a 16-14 loss at Cranmore in their final game. Greengates A and Hollies S&SC are relegated.

Whitkirk’s impressive home form enabled them to seal the third-tier Observer title to cap a memorable first season in the league.

They may have struggled on their travels but their own tricky green proved the downfall of many visitors and Godwin teams are also likely to find it tough next season.

Hove Edge A make a quick return to the higher section after last season’s relegation. Asa Briggs B and Peel A are relegated.

* Airedale & Wharfedale were crowned Federation Champion of Champions winners after beating Mid-Cheshire in the final at Centre Vale Park in Todmorden.

The winners of each of the six Federation competitions play in this end-of-season showpiece. Aire-Wharfe were in Section B with Bury and South Lancashire, while Section A consisted Mid-Cheshire, Barnsley and Leeds.

Aire-Wharfe, having won Division Five, opened against Division Four table-toppers Bury and won 7-3, before drawing 5-5 against Division Two champions Barnsley.

They concluded by edging out Division Six winners South Lancashire 6-4, before upsetting the odds to beat Division One champions Mid-Cheshire in the title decider.

Mick Hall and Gary Whelan were the only Aire-Wharfe winners in the first five jacks, leaving Mid-Cheshire three ahead.
