A Bradford amateur club are celebrating after a double golden raid on the Palace.

There were two Huggy’s Platinum winners from the prestigious Haringey Box Cup held at Alexandra Palace in London.

Saif Cheema and Mohammed Nadeem both emerged victorious from the open-age 64kg category.

Boxers from as far afield as Norway, Sweden, Belgium and Switzerland descended on the capital for the three-day event.

Club owner Huggy Osman said: “It’s a major competition so it was a great win for both of them.”

Triumphant Nadeem said: “I appreciate all the time and effort various people have given me.

“Alwyn Belcher is the best coach in the world. His coaching is priceless.

“In both the semi-final and final, at the end of the first round he was so relaxed and calm, his experience shines through.

“He made me smile and this made me feel at home. I usually come out of a fight not having a clue what the corner has told me.”

Nadeem also praised his manager Imran Cheema and brother Adam.

“Imran has managed the two of us really well, from specialist sports therapy, driving us around to places, arranging quality sparring and introducing me to strength conditioning. He kept an eye on our weight too, which was like a walk in the park.

“My brother is my biggest fan. He hasn’t missed any of my fights. I don’t think I could fight without him now.”

Meanwhile, Hamza Hussain is carrying the Platinum name into the continent this week after being selected for the English squad in the European Junior Championships in Bulgaria.

The 15-year-old prospect, boxing at 60kg, earned his call-up after standing out in the recent Three Nations bouts.
