Horsforth’s David Stone has been selected in Great Britain’s 18-strong Paracycling squad for London 2012.

The 31-year-old won gold in both the CP1/3 road race and time trial at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics.

Birmingham-born Stone, who suffers from cerebral palsy and describes cycling as a source of freedom and enjoyment, had completed the road race and time trial double at the 2006 and 2007 World Paracycling Championships, and repeated that feat in the 2010 version.

He has also won gold in the team sprint at the 2005 World Paracycling Championships, where he took bronze in both the road race and time trial, and he was second in the time trial at the 2009 and 2011 worlds.

Sarah Storey, an MBE like Stone, is set to compete at her sixth Paralympics.

Storey, 34, will defend her pursuit and time trial titles as she aims to add to her collection of 18 Paralympic medals - 16 of which were won in the pool - when competition begins in London on August 30.

“Being selected for my sixth Games is very exciting. It has been a long time coming and one of the latest announcements I think I have been involved with,” said Storey, who first competed at a Paralympics at Barcelona in 1992.

Stone and Storey are joined in a strong squad, announced by the British Paralympic Association (BPA), by fellow Paralympic multiple gold medallists Darren Kenny, Aileen McGlynn, Jody Cundy and Rachel Morris.
