James Lund impressed as he retained his ASA north-east regional 100 and 200 metres breaststroke titles for the second year running.

The 12-year-old City of Bradford swimmer recorded times of 1min 23.71sec and 2:58.74 respectively in his signature events during the British Gas BAGCAT Championships at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.

Lund also claimed third place in the 400m individual medley, seventh in the 200m medley and eighth in the 200m butterfly.

There was success as well for clubmate Eva Chapman, also 12, who claimed four qualifying times for this summer’s National Age Group Championships.

Her times came in the 400 and 800m freestyle, where she placed second, 100m freestyle (third) and 200m freestyle (fourth).

Chapman went on to claim sixth place in the 200m medley and ninth in the 100m breaststroke.

Myles Stirk, already with a national qualifying time in the 200m backstroke to his credit, failed to add to his tally but the 12-year-old still continued his rich vein of form at the meet.

He had silver podium places in the 100m backstroke, 200 and 400m freestyle and 200m medley, while adding a bronze in the 100m freestyle.

City of Bradford’s 12-year-old swimmers dominated the weekend, with Millie Foulds claiming a silver medal in the 200m backstroke, fifth place in the 800m freestyle, seventh in the 400m freestyle and tenth in the 100m backstroke.

Jasmine Hanson continued to feature in major finals as she finished fourth in the girls’ 13 years 200m breaststroke and fifth in the shorter 100m.

James Balby, 14, finished fourth in the gruelling 1500m freestyle and Azura Cairns Poole, 12, was tenth in the 200m butterfly.

All swimmers train on the Bradford Aquatics Competition programme under the guidance of coach Sarah Fisher.
