Ferry's collapse gives Yeadon Flyers something to smile about at last

Unity B secured the runners-up spot after beating Hermits A 7-3, which was a let down for Fastbats A, who had to settle for third place, despite beating champions Unity D by the same score.

Yeadon Flyers were relegated after losing to Unity C but later in the week had the chance to gain some consolation when they faced Unity B in the semi-final of the handicap competition.

Flyers began with a 21-point advantage but that was immediately reduced by 14 points when Dave Rawlins beat Derek Greenwood 44-30.

Chris Sanderson has been Yeadon’s most consistent performer this season and once again he stepped up to the plate by beating the Unity trio by 30 points and, with two sets left, Yeadon were 20 points ahead.

Rawlins put the match back in the balance by beating Mick Burton by 15 points, so another nail-biting finish was on the cards for Yeadon as Greenwood took a five-point lead into the final set against Jim Ferry.

Yeadon’s miserable week looked set to continue when Ferry took the first three games 33-23 to put Unity five points ahead with one game left but he went to pieces in the final game and Greenwood won it 11-3 to put Yeadon in the final by three points.
