Bradford Dragons beat PAWS London Capitals 83-69 to go fifth in EBL Division One and stay on course for a place in the play-offs.

Key lay-ups by Bobby Edmunds, Michal Ciesla and Rihard Sulcs in the final quarter, with court-length quarterback assists from Vance Silcott, saw the Dragons safely home.

Coach Chris Mellor said: “I wasn’t happy with how we defended certain things and how we rebounded but we did enough offensively to keep our noses in front and it’s an important win to consolidate our play-off position.”

Sulcs again led the scoring for the Dragons with 33 points, Silcott made 15 and Edmunds weighed in with 12.

Dragons next home game is against Reading Rockets on Saturday at Trinity Green sports hall, Bradford College, tip-off 6.15pm.

Dragons women lost 83-46 against a strong Oxford University side in the final of the Women’s Founders Cup in Nottingham – a new national competition for non-EBL teams.

Coach Mark Gunn said: “It was a tough game against a team that deservedly won but we were proud to be runners-up in the first year of this new national competition.”
